Los Angeles, October 11, 2007 -- A Special Bienvenido/Reception Honoring William T Fujioka, Chief Executive Officer (CEO), sponsorred by Los Angeles County Hispanic Manager's Association (CHMA), was held at
the Quiet Cannon in Montebello, California. The event began with a warm welcome by Ruthie Munoz , Board Member, CHMA. Ms. Munoz introduced City of Montebello Councilwoman Rosemarie Vasquez who presented a proclamation to William T Fujioka congratulating him upon his appointment of Los Angeles County CEO. Councilwoman Vasquez shared that Mr. Fujioka is a product of the City of Montebello – he attended Montebello Intermediate and High School – and the city is very proud of his accomplishments.
Andy Martinez, President, CHMA, gave a rousing introduction of Mr. Fujioka. Mr. Martinez described Mr. Fujioka as an individual who “treated everyone with kindness and respect” and was “known as the go-to guy”. Clearly, Mr. Martinez and Mr. Fujioka share a friendship and working relationship rooted over many years. In his speech, Mr. Fujioka acknowledged that he accepted the job of CEO not for the status or “to pay the bills”. He was already retired from the City of Los Angeles when the County approached him to consider the position of CEO. He obviously joined the County based on his sense of duty to “help”. “When the day is over, we need to cross department lines” and work together, he declared to a rapt audience. Welcome aboard to our new CEO! We look forward to working with him over the many years to come!
Along with LACAAEA and other County employee organizations, the following departments were represented: Alternate Public Defender,
Chief Executive Office, County Counsel, DHS, DPSS, Fire Department, Probation and Public Defender.
Robert Taylor, Chief Probation Officer, and
Janice Fukai, Alternate Public Defender, along with a delegation from her department, were also in attendance.
The night’s entertainments was provided by Mariachi Olympico de Roosevelt High School, lead by Alendario Cevallos, Director, and Ballet Folklorico de Sally Savedra. See you all at the upcoming LACAAEA
