     Jonathan E. Fielding, MD, MPH, MBA, is the Director of Los Angeles County Department of Public Health and the County Health Officer, responsible for all public health functions including surveillance and control of both communicable and non-communicable diseases, and of health protection (including against bioterrorism) for the County’s 10 million residents. He directs a staff of 4,000 with an annual budget exceeding $700 million.

He is Vice-Chair of the Los Angeles First 5 Commission, which grants over $100 million per year to improve the health and development of children 0-5 years old, chair of the US Community Preventive Services Task Force and was a founding member of the US Clinical Preventive Services Task Force. He also serves on the Board of the American Legacy Foundation, is an elected member in the National Academy of Sciences Institute of Medicine, and is a Professor in the Schools of Medicine and Public Health at UCLA.

He received his medical and public health degrees from Harvard University, and an M.B.A. in Finance from the Wharton School of Business. Dr. Fielding has received numerous awards, including the Sedgwick Memorial Medal from the American Public Health Association and the Distinguished Alumni Achievement award from the Harvard School of Public Health.

Miles Yokota is the Deputy Director of Administration and Finance for the new Department of Public Health. Mr. Yokota served 25 of his 28 years of County service with the Department of Health Services (DHS). He started his career as an Accountant at LAC+USC and after a few years transferred to DHS central administration. He has held the positions of Controller of the DHS Finance Division, Administrative Deputy for Public Health, and later executive manager over DHS Contracts Administration. In April of 2004, he left DHS for a promotion as Administrative Deputy at the Department of Mental Health. In August 2006, he was persuaded by Dr. Fielding to return to the new Department of Public Health.
