John Mina's Bio - Human Resources Analyst/Ombudsman
John is Chairman of the Filipino American Library, having served as its president for four and a half years. He is the President-Elect of the Rotary Club of Historic Filipinotown and will be named President in June 2011.
Born and raised in the Philippines, John is a Human Resources Analyst IV with the Ombudsman/Community Liaison Division in the Department of Human Resources for the County of Los Angeles. He began his career with the County in 1997 working in the public relations hub of the department. He is responsible for a myriad of programs/projects: marketing special events and in-house publicity; managing two County-wide publications; specialized recruiting; and special activities revolving around the Department’s Strategic Plan. He oversees the County’s Student Worker Program and is the lead staff member of the division and assists its Senior Human Resources Manager.
John holds a bachelor’s degree in journalism with an emphasis in public relations and a minor in political science from California State University, Northridge. He is also the co-vice president of social events for the La Salle Alumni Association of Southern California.
He is currently a member of both the Los Angeles County Asian American Employees Association and the Filipino American Employees Association (LACFAEA) and has served on LACFAEA’s board for many years. Recently, he became involved with the Overseas Filipinos for Good Governance, a group of Southern California Filipino Americans united for a common cause—assisting the Philippine government in good governance as the organization’s public relations officer.
